Say What?

Have you ever said, "wait a minute, there can't be a website devoted to _________?" Well, here's another for your favorites list, and it is an excellent one. The Circumpolar Universities Association, besides having the coolest name in higher education (pun intended), also works to develop "Cooperation in Northern Education." Their 6th Circumpolar Universities Co-operative Conference was held during June 1999 in Aberdeen, Scotland. On the first evening, attendees enjoyed a "cold buffet meal" for dinner. These guys know how to throw an appropriate theme party. But seriously, their mission is wholly appropriate. One of the main activities of the group is a cooperative venture. As detailed at the site, "The University of the Arctic is the future of higher education in the emerging Circumpolar region. Designed to meet the needs of northern peoples as they face the challenges of a rapidly globalizing world, the University is a partnership of academic institutions, indigenous peoples organizations and the Arctic states." If you are interested in cooperative education, environmental, indigenous peoples, and northern issues in higher education, please visit this site. With member organizations from Bulgaria, to China, to Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and even the Institute of Arctic Studies at Darmouth College, this site is a frozen treat.
