Cyber School Bus Hits the Road in Malaysia

Site: http://www.undp.org/dpa/frontpagearchive/august99/18aug99/index.

I just discovered a really exciting article on the UNESCO website, that kind of puts to shame any of our complaints about Internet access here in the U.S.. The article I found, "Internet School Bus Hits the Road in Malaysia," talks about what they call their "cyber school bus project," and it's destined to help open the world to the country's poverty areas. The article states: "On board the cyber school bus are two information technology training experts who are conducting classes for both teachers and students in basic computer skills, word processing, document management and the Internet." To me, this is a tremendous goal, with almost a mission-impossible scheme. So many kids in outlying areas, so small a work force! But one can only imagine the difference this will make for those who, previously, had very little outside contact with great amounts of information, let alone what is available on the Net.
