Top » Art & ArchitectureWEB ART: 'DEMOCRACY' AT WORKSite: http://www.wirednews.com/news/culture/0,1284,38290,00.htmlAre you tired of the same old news every day? Reena Jana takes a look at a new non-partisan website called "Democracy--The Last Campaign," created by Jon Winet and Margaret Crane, which combines news and Net art while covering the 2000 presidential campaign. Launched during the Republican National Convention, "Democracy," hosted and archived by the Walker Art Center, displays banners, borderless photos, political sound bites, narrative essays, and projects by other artists. At first glance, some art journalists, like Beth Coleman, senior editor of "Art Byte," question its artistic value. But, Coleman realizes that the site's unedited and unfiltered political coverage is an artistic expression of mainstream political culture that you don't see on television or other websites. Jana informs readers that "Democracy" is constantly updated and will be operating until Inauguration Day on January 20. Fri, 18 Aug 2000 08:06:07 -0700 Submitted by: Dino Manalis
