Canine Games: a win-win idea

Site: http://www.caninegames.com

Sport competitions for dogs and their owners have expanded in recent years with the growth in popularity of agility events, canine freestyle dance competition, and family-oriented sled dog racing, among others. Now Canine Games have arrived, with a two-fold purpose: increase the bond between dog and owner, and raise funds for homeless dogs. The project is the brainchild of Susan Sweet of Virginia, a dog owner and volunteer with local humane societies. These are games for every dog, with no special training required. There are ten events in all, with the games ranging from Go Fetch to the Best Kiss contest. The organization's website offers great photos, news of upcoming game days, and the history of this new dog sport. This is a concept that should spread across the continent to help secure homes for rescue and shelter dogs everywhere.
