Moon Boots and Ape Suits

Now I've seen everything. Even more outlandish than a planet where apes eveolved from men is this website, featuring "Planet of the Apes" fans who like to dress up in simian make-up. The "Apemania" troupe is a kind of "Beatlemania" devoted to the 1968 sci-fi classic starring Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall. Troupe members appear at weddings, bar mitvahs, and the occasional truck and van show. They also maintain this very cool website, which provides a little back story on the cast and solicits and posts photos of everyday fans who have created their own costumes (look for it under "Junior G-Man"). This is a wonderfully daffy idea whose time, if it hasn't come, has at least been goosed along the evolutionary timeline by the advent of the Internet
