University of Connecticut posthumously accepts Florida shooting victim

Alex Schachter was one of the 17 victims of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida on February 14th. The 14 year old freshman dreamed of attending the University of Connecticut, where his late mother was an alumni.

UConn’s admission director, Nathan Fuerst, sent a Feb. 21st posthumous admission letter to the School of Music. Fuerst also included a handwritten message to Schachter’s family extending his condolences and saying that the school was “touched by [Alex’s] love for music and for his love of UConn”. Fuerst says that Alex “exemplifies what it means to be a UConn Husky”.

Another victim, Peter Wang, received a posthumous acceptance to the U.S Military Academy at West Point.
