Killer whale can mimic English language words

A female killer whale named Wikie has the unique ability to mimic human speech, reports BBC News.

Wikie, the only known whale with this talent, can make sounds similar to “hello” and “goodbye” by repetition. She can also say “Amy” and count up to three — through her blowhole.

Dr. Jose Abramson believes that conversation with Wilkie will someday be possible. He also acknowledges that dolphins and parrots have performed similar feats. However, he also warns that “there is more to gain” by understanding the unique communications among individual species.
