Yesterday, high school students across the United States walked out of their schools in protest. They weren’t protesting their classes or their grades, though. They were protesting the failure of the American government to regulate gun laws.
According to Quartz Media, the students’ families and teachers were in full support of the walkout. The walkout, which lasted 17 minutes in honor of the 17 Parkland shooting victims, made headlines.
A countermovement, #WalkUpNotOut, encourages students to befriend lonely students in an effort to prevent them from becoming future school shooters. However, parents and teachers expressed their pride at the younger generation’s courage and humanity.
